UPDATE: Driver dies after Littlehampton crash

POLICE have today confirmed (January 2) that the driver of a car, which crashed into a wall on Friday, sadly died at the scene – despite valiant efforts by emergency services to save him.

The man – who has not yet been formerly identified – was a 34-year-old believed to be from Littlehampton.

The incident took place shortly before 1pm, at the junction of Fitzalan Road and Church Street.

He had been driving a red Vauxhall Astra which left the road and hit a wall, police said.

The driver was found to be unconscious by emergency service personnel.

Paramedics, assisted by firefighters, rushed to give him life-saving CPR.

Air ambulance medics, who landed in nearby Caffyns Field, also provided assistance.

However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner has been informed.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them on 101, quoting Operation Avon.
