UPDATE: Elderly man dies in Birdham Road collision

A man in his 70s has been declared dead at the scene of a collision between a car and a tractor in Birdham Road this afternoon, according to police.

The A286 remains closed following the incident at around 2.30pm and is likely to stay shut for several hours with diversions off the A27 by-pass.

Emergency services are still at the scene close to the junction with Crooked Lane.

The man who died was driving the car involved in the incident, police said.

Anyone who saw what happened or who noticed either vehicle being driven shortly beforehand is asked to email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting Operation Willowfold.
