Update: Horsham-based charity hosts Paddington movie special screening

The eyes of each audience member at the Capitol Arts Centre in Horsham were glued to the screen, much in the way of a hard ‘Paddington Stare’, as cinema-goers were treated to the exclusive pre-screening of the action-packed movie in aid of the children’s charity which is based off North Parade.

To much excitement, especially from his younger fans, Paddington, who has been the charity’s mascot for nearly 40 years, was there himself, to welcome everyone who had come to see his star appearance!

Then the film itself was introduced by Action Medical Research Chief Executive, Julie Buckler.

“We’re very grateful to The Capitol Arts Centre in Horsham for lending us such a wonderful venue and generously donating the proceeds from all ticket sales,” said Julie after the event,

“It ensured that the evening was a great success.”

The exciting, live action film inspired by Michael Bond’s best-selling books which boasts an all-star cast (including Hugh Bonneville, Nicole Kidman, Julie Walters and Jim Broadbent) is not released to the general public until Friday (November 28).

For the finale of the evening, as cinema-goers left the screening, they were presented with goody bags detailing the work of Action Medical Research as well as a Paddington toy and a jar of marmalade as a more lasting reminder.

Paddington has been at the heart of fundraising for Action Medical Research Action Medical Research ever since his creator, Michael Bond (who makes a cameo appearance in the film), met the charity’s founder, Duncan Guthrie, in 1976.

Always trying to help where he can, and after chewing the matter over with Mr Bond, Paddington eagerly decided to support Action Medical Research as the charity’s official mascot. His friendly face has helped to attract thousands of new supporters who, together, have raised millions of pounds to help sick babies and children.
