UPDATE: Littlehampton man killed in Kent road crash named

A LITTLEHAMPTON man killed in a car crash in Kent has been named by police.

Michael Baker, 47, died after the recovery truck he was a passenger in collided with an articulated lorry on the A20, near Swanley, at about 10.40am on Saturday (July 24).

A Kent Police spokesman said that Mr Baker had been involved in another crash on the M25 earlier that day, and was being towed home by the truck.

Police are appealing to witnesses, saying that there had been reports of young people throwing stones at vehicles on the same stretch of road shortly before the incident, and that the heavy goods lorry the recovery truck collided with had pulled over after having its windows

smashed as he drove along.

Sevenoaks district commander, Ch Ins Adrian Futers, said: "This weekend a family have lost a loved one, this is not the time for people to withhold information out of some sort of misguided loyalty.

"This group of young people were standing at a spot that we frequently send patrols to because youngsters hang around near the road and there have been previous reports of things being thrown at vehicles.

"It goes without saying that no one should ever think it is a joke to distract drivers or throw anything at vehicles, sadly one family in particular understand this only too well."
