UPDATE: Lorry strikes level crossing barrier in Billingshurst

Trains between Horsham and Barnham were delayed or cancelled after an incident in Billingshurst yesterday (Monday April 11).

Reports say a heavy goods vehicle hit the level crossing barrier in Station Road.

The road was blocked between Lower Station Road and the Silver Lane junction.

A statement from rail operator Southern said trains were running at reduced speed.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 mins at short notice,” it said.

A later update changed the figure to 40 minutes.

“Due to a vehicle striking the barriers at a level crossing at Billingshurst, all lines are currently blocked.

“We are currently sourcing replacement buses and will provide further details once arrangements have been made.

Network Rail, who own and maintain the level crossings on the network, are attending the fault and will be providing updates to us. They are expected to be on site shortly and we will then provide further information about the problem.”

Replacement buses arrived at Horsham and Barham at about 7pm, while disruption continued until about 9pm.
