Sussex Police said officers were called to the crash at 8.30am at junction 10 where the five vehicles had been involved in a collision, blocking both carriageways and the hard shoulder.

South East Coast Ambulance Service said a woman in her 40s suffered a bump to the head, a man in his 30s suffered neck and back pain and one was taken to Crawley Hospital but neither were serious.

Traffic built up while efforts were made to remove the damaged vehicles. All lanes are now reopened.
