UPDATE: Police appeal after elderly woman seriously injured in A27 crash

AN ELDERLY woman sustained serious injuries after being hit by a van on the A27 near Lyons Farm yesterday (Wednesday, August 21).

The 80-year-old Broadwater woman suffered a fractured skull, two broken arms and internal injuries, after being struck on the A27, near its junction with Shandon Road.

She was hit by a white Volkswagen Transporter van, and fell backwards, banging her head on a wall.

She was then taken to Southampton General Hospital.

The 38-year-old driver, from Woodingdean, was not hurt.

The westbound carriageway of the road had to be closed for more than three hours, while the victim was treated and the scene was cleared.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw the crash happen, or the victim or van in the moments beforehand.
