UPDATE: Residents return home after Tangmere gas leak

Residents have been told they can return to their homes following yesterday’s Tangmere gas leak.

A gas main in Woodfield Close was ruptured by workmen at 4.23pm yesterday.

Around 70 houses in the area were evacuated as a safety precaution and a cordon around the main was extended to 100 metres.

SGN completed a temporary repair of the pipe at 3am today and are continuing to work today to make a permanent repair.

Residents were told they could return to their homes at 3.50am.

No one was injured and police are no longer at the scene.
