The group arrived in the park in the Hampden Park area of the town on Wednesday afternoon and set up an unauthorised encampment.

Police have this afternoon (Thursday) confirmed the group has been served with a Section 61 Notice requiring them to move on by midday tomorrow (Friday).

Under current legislation police officers will visit sites reported to them and if there are six or more vehicles, officers can use powers under section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

They can take action if criminal activity, public disorder or disruption to the local community can be established.

Officials from Eastbourne and East Sussex councils have been at the site to carry out welfare checks as there are a number of children in the group.

The group is not the same as the one which set up an encampment on land between the Sovereign Centre and Monarch House flats last month and left last Thursday after a nine day stay.
