Update: Woman taken to hospital after Crawley crash

The fire was started deliberately, the fire service said

Firefighters cut her out of a car after emergency services were called to the two blue Fords crashed in Worth Road in Pound Hill at 8.21am today (Friday May 27).

An ambulance service spokesman said the woman, who was aged in her 50s, was taken to East Surrey Hospital as a priority.

Firefighters used hydraulic gear to cut the roof off the car before the victim, who had pains to her back and back of the head, was lifted out in a neck collar and vacuum mattress, said the spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Sussex Police and three fire crews including Crawley’s specialist road collision unit were in attendance.

A police spokesman said: “A woman in one of the vehicles was medically trapped with a suspected neck injury and was released by firefighters. She was later found to have only minor injuries.

“The road was closed while the incident was dealt with and the scene cleared, eventually re-opening just before 10am.”
