Valentine's Day charity rose challenge at Seaford College

Seaford College students sold 250 Valentine's Day roses today (February 14), raising well over £500 for the boarding house Walled Garden West's charity, Children with Cancer UK.

The flowers were hand-cut, wrapped and delivered around the campus by the students who also prepared handwritten cards.

Head of Boarding, Matthew Pitteway,said: “They took up the challenge with great enthusiasm. Children with Cancer UK is the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer, and we’re really proud to support them this term, and bring a little Valentine’s joy to Seaford College in the process.”

As part of the college’s community programme, it hosted its second annual ‘Love Lunch’ for residents of local care homes on Sunday (February 12). Minibuses brought 53 residents, carers and drivers from six Shaw care homes.

They were welcomed by the girls from Mansion and Heden Court houses and Yolanda Gumpo played the keyboard, sang and even encouraged one of the residents to sing a song he had composed himself.

Every week students visit residents in Shaw’s Petworth and Pulborough homes and during Seaford’s annual community ‘Big Day Out’ students take groups of residents out to restaurants.
