Five parking meters have been damaged in a new spate of vandalism in Lewes.
Four were attacked with fireworks and a fifth had paint daubed on it, altogether causing an estimated £4,500 of damage.
The machines are believed to have been targeted on Sunday evening (May 24).
Two were attacked with a firework and paint respectively in the Phoenix Causeway car park and fireworks were used to damage machines in Friars Walk, Garden Street and Southover Road.
Detective Constable Julie Cocklin, from Sussex Police, said: “A man was seen to run off towards the town centre after an explosion alerted residents to an attack in Friars Walk around 10pm.
“Two fireworks were also heard in the Southover area between 8pm and 10pm that evening, so it is possible that the offender was moving from that area on towards the town around that time.
“If you witnessed any of the attacks or have any information about who is responsible, please email email@example.com or call 101 quoting Operation Cohesion.”
