Variety Club wheels for Kennedy

The Variety Club's 'Easy Riders Wheelchairs for Kids' scheme celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and has provided close to 3153 wheelchairs since 1988.

One child is 11 year old Kennedy Jarvis who is the proud owner of a new Convaid Cruiser Buggy from the Variety Club Children's Charity.

Kennedy said: "I can now go where I want, when I want. I like my chair and can't wait to go out with my friends and family around Bexhill."

Kennedy's mum, Karen has no doubt that her daughter will soon be confident in using it. She said:

"It is important for Kennedy to like her chair and something to be proud of. She is now a regular at the Brownies. The chair is so lightweight and easy to manage. To have been given this help from the Variety Club has improved the quality of life of the whole family."

Norman Kaphan, Variety Club's Chief Barker said: "2008 marks the twentieth anniversary of Variety Club supporting disabled children on the road to independence through our 'Easy Riders Wheelchairs for Kids' scheme. The Variety Club provided 186 Wheelchairs to children in 2007 alone and in this celebratory year, we are looking to actively increase the number of applicants we receive and our aim is to ensure children throughout the UK have access to the most appropriate equipment to give them as independent a life as possible. "

The Variety Club, where possible provides free and partly funded wheelchairs through its Easy Riders scheme and the charity is urging more disabled children and their families to apply for wheelchairs. All applications must be accompanied by a letter from a qualified occupational therapist or physiotherapist.
