VE nostalgia party at Normanhurst

A "sentimental journey back in time" was enjoyed by residents of the Normanhurst when a war-time musical review was performed for them by staff.

The show was directed by Maria Lozano who commented: "Following the success of our Christmas carol concert we felt inspired to produce something bigger and better.

"A few ideas were thrown into the pot and very quickly we decided to celebrate V.E Day - with the Blitz, Glitz and Glamour World War 2 Nostalgia singalong.

"It proved to be a resounding success."

Family and friends of both the residents and staff attended the performance.

"We had a packed house," said Maria.

"The residents from the nursing home and the EMI unit also helped us to celebrate. There was a true sense of community spirit. Staff from all departments pulled together to put on the afternoon's event, and the chefs prepared a special lunch and buffet supper using authentic recipes from WW2.

"The show took nearly four months to put together. We practised two evenings a week. The cast put a lot of time, effort and commitment into their performance. They did themselves proud."

Resident Doris Hallett, who was a war-time munitions worker, said: "It brought back a lot of memories. Some sad, but many happy. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a wonderful assortment of songs. There was something to suit everybody."
