Vehicles galore at Pagham parade

Thoughts of service personnel past and present will be to the fore at the latest Pagham on Parade.

Military vehicles from as far away as Bishop's Stortford will be on show at the community event on Sunday, August 9. Fully-equipped Ferret scout cars with guns and smoke generators will be there as well.

The occasion will also feature a brief act of remembrance to mark the 65th anniversary of D-Day earlier this summer.

This will be conducted by the Rev Keith Smith, vicar of the parish church of St Thomas a'Becket.

Mr Smith will also lead those present in paying respect to the troops recently lost in the fighting in Afghanistan. Royal British Legion standard bearers will be present.

The Help for Heroes charity will have a stand and exhibition to raise funds for the care and support of servicemen and women who return to this country wounded from the battleground.

This year's Pagham on Parade is the fifth of the occasions to be held by Pagham Parish Council.

It will take place at the usual venue of the village hall and its adjoining field on Pagham Road.

Public entry will be from 11am to 4pm. Admission is free.

Parish council chairman Ray Radmall said: "A substantial number of classic and historic vehicles are booked to appear.

"Rumours are that many more are likely to make the decision to come at the last minute. Tractors, lorries and buses will be on display as well. We shall also have the police, fire and rescue service and the Solent police patrol boat."
