Vicious attack on young man

A YOUNG man was viciously attacked and robbed in Spital Road, Lewes, on Sunday night.

The thugs got away with the victim s credit card and just under 10 in cash.

The 20-year-old local man, who has not been named, was walking home when a Red Escort pulled up alonside him.

Two men got out and, for no reason, attacked him, punching and kicking him and leaving him on the ground.

They then drove off but returned almost immediately to attack him further and steal his wallet.

The victim managed to get home and called police who sealed the area off but were unable to find the attackers.

Said Acting Inspector Dave Padwick: This sort of nasty and unprovoked attack is mercifully rare in Lewes, which makes it all the important than we catch those responsible.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Their information will be treated confidentially.

* A man was coaxed off the railwaly line at Southease, near Lewes, at 10.10pm on Friday. Trains were halted for a few minutes until the man was taken into custody. He was detained under the Mental Health Act.
