“Its such a lovely day for it,” said Jane Kilby, general manger of the centre.

“Local businesses have been extremely generous with their time and things, and it is going to be a fun day.

People from all over are coming for the day, we have some from Hayling Island and some from Aldingbourne.”

Sam Buckland, who attends the centre said he was having a good day and planned to stay until the end.

Alastair Riddell had brought along a selection of his paintings to sell at the fete.

“I painted them all – some of the birds I painted from memory,” he said.

There were plenty of volunteers helping out, with many planning to stay until the end of today’s (Sunday, September 1) festivities.

Lynn Collins, from Westergate, volunteers more than 30 hours a week at the centre, in her role as a support worker.

“We’ve been really busy on the bric-a-brac stall,” she said.

“People have bought so much stuff and just keep on buying.

“It’s such a nice day and lovely to see it so popular.”

Mike Carroll has been volunteering for about four years.

“I think I probably get more from volunteering than they do,” he said. “It’s really good fun.”

The fete is set to continue until late this afternoon.
