Their route will take them from West Park at 2pm along Marine Drive West, turning on to Aldwick Road and then The Esplanade.

At Clarence Road, the parade will turn and through the town centre on the High Street and West Street.

It will turn back on itself and finish on The Esplanade. Previous years have seen its route confined to the seafront.

Sue Holmes, the council’s head of street scene and leisure services, said: “Trophies will be awarded to the winners of each of the five categories.

“The award ceremony will take place on the Place St Maur, next to the Regis Centre, where music to get everyone in the carnival mood will be playing throughout the afternoon.”

Bensons Funfair are again at West Park.

Road closures around the town centre will be in place from 2pm until the parade has finished.

The Regis Centre car park will stay open, unlike recent carnivals, but the movement of vehicles there will be subject to restrictions.
