VIDEO: Ex-mayor Charles James leaves Conservative party for UKIP

EX Worthing mayor Charles James has this morning announced he has left the Conservatives for UKIP (Monday, July 1).

Mr James, who was mayor last year, cited a “disillusionment” from his former party at a national level, but stopped short of calling it a defection.

He said: “This decision was not something I rushed into. After much reflection, I have come to believe that the only party trying to conserve Britain is UKIP.”

The announcement was made at 9.15am, and Mr James has not yet informed his former party colleagues.
