VIDEO: ‘Fantastic’ response to the new ‘Eye Cafe’ in Horsham

A new cafe in West Street - opened on the floor above Dixey CB Opticians - has had a ‘fantastic’ response from the public, said its proprietor today (September 26).

Since the Eye Cafe’s opening on September 14, nearly all of the independent specialist’s customers have been new, added Dirk Bollwerk.

Mr Bollwerk, 49, of Worthing, said: “95 per cent of people who have come through the door have never seen us before which was exactly our aim.”

The ‘tranquil’ cafe was inspired by one of his patients.

“The cafe was inspired by our patients, one of whom is an American writer who was looking for a tranquil space hidden away from the high street and I believe that’s what we’ve created,” explained the proprietor.

The cafe sources its meats and cheeses from Worthing’s Piccola Italia, which was named ‘Best UK Deli’ in the second annual Bertolli Spread Olive D’Oro Awards on Monday (September 24).

Its German truffles are sourced from a company based in Mr Bollwerk’s home-town, Bocholt, Germany.
