VIDEO: Fire crews rescue horse in Nyetimber

Caring fire crews spent almost an hour in Nyetimber yesterday lifting a tired horse back on to its hooves.

A total of 11 firefighters went to the Summer Lane stables in Summer Lane after a reported that the animal could not get to its feet.

They used plenty of straw along the stable floor and some heavy rescue equipment to get the elderly animal standing again.

Fire appliances from Bognor Regis, Chichester and the Witterings attended the incident.

They were alerted at 9.22am and left at 10.20am. A vet was present throughout to ensure the health of the horse was unaffected by the rescue.

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "The horse was very contented lying down but it just couldn't get up.

"We managed to raise it using our heavy rescue tender. We were happy to help and we're pleased that the incident had such a happy ending."
