VIDEO: Flood water pumped from school route tunnel

Flood water in a tunnel next to a school was pumped out today (Monday January 6).

The footpath, which runs under the railway line and links Marion Road, in Furnace Green, to Maidenbower Lane, by Oriel High School, was drained by a Network Rail contractor this afternoon.

Oriel High School has used its mini-bus to ferry pupils from one side to the other during floods. There were three floods in the tunnel last year.

A school spokesman said: “The students seemed to find the ‘mini-bus ferry’ quite novel, but they are puzzled as to why this happens in the first place.

“The students and their families share the same frustration as the school with the situation.”
