VIDEO: GCSE results slip at The Littlehampton Academy

The marks, announced today (Thursday, August 22), reveal academy students receiving at least five A* to C grades was marginally lower than the national average of 68.1 per cent, with only 67 per cent achieving this figure in Littlehampton.

The academy’s statistics for those earning the benchmark of at least five A* to C, including English and maths, also fell.

There was a seven per cent decrease from last year’s record of 50 per cent to just 43 per cent this year.

But it appears the academy has managed to buck the national trend of plummeting science marks.

This year 53.1 per cent of science entries nationally were awarded between an A* and C.

However, the academy’s science score saw a dramatic increase of 16 per cent from last year, with 61 per cent of students receiving top passes in the subject.

Principal Steve Jewell said: “We focussed on science and mathematics this year and it is pleasing to see that more pupils have made the expected progress in both subjects.”
