On Saturday May 11 they will hold in the church gardens a ‘May Fayre’ offering visitors and shoppers a fun addition to their weekend visit to town.

This month’s ‘May Fayre’ revives a 1934 initiative of the Unitarian Church (then called the Free Christian Church) but brings it very much up-to-date.

The revived ‘May Fayre’ is designed to offer attractions for all ages, providing enjoyment for both parents and children. Entry is free and activities include, games, crafts, jewellery, cakes, books, non-permanent tattoos, plants, nail painting, raffle, cream teas and more.

The Butterfly Project charity,on whose behalf the event is organised, provides a service for young adults with learning disabilities, offering a wide range of activities aimed around work skills and community projects. Their work-based activity services in Horsham incorporate a charity shop in Springfield Road and multiple-use workshop and studio.

Commenting on the forthcoming fundraiser Butterfly Project administrator Elaine McBride said: “We know the Unitarian Church well from the work our young people do in maintaining their gardens and you can imagine how delighted we were when they came up with this imaginative offer to use those gardens for an event to support us.

“We hope very much there will be really good attendance on the 11th.”
