Tony Ford, 72, from Worthing, is hosting a veterans motocross day at his track behind Home Farm, in Hammerpond Road, on Sunday October 5 with the aim of raising as much money as he can for the Sussex Air Ambulance.

He said: “They are amazing. One of the leaders’ boys crashed and the Air Ambulance came out to save him. I thought they were really good.

“We have had the Air Ambulance out here seven times in the last two years so we thought it was time to give something back.”

The event is open to everyone to come down and watch but only people over 40 can ride in the competition.

This will be the 22nd year that Tony has hosted the veterans race day and said it is the only event in the country that people of this age group can come down and take part in.

He said: “It is the only one in the area for veterans.

“They do have an international one but there is not one like it nationally.”

The day is scheduled to start at 11am with the racing set to begin at 12 noon.

It will cost spectators £3 to go down and watch and there will also be a charge of £2 for anyone over 40 that wishes to participate in the races.

“All the money raised at the gate will go straight to the charity,” Tony said. “We won’t take a penny of it and we are paying for everything else ourselves.”
