VIDEO: Littlehampton fun runners go the extra mile for Sport Relief

The blissful sunshine managed to attract 320 people to the Littlehampton Sport Relief Mile – as well as a generous spirit, with one woman single-handedly raising £1,300 in sponsorship.

This year also saw a bumper turn-out of youngsters – some as young as four – taking part in the event, which started at The Windmill Entertainment Centre, with organisers claiming more than 100 children joined the fun.

Andy McTaggart, who arranged the charitable charge with his daughter Bren, 25, said: “We had so many children taking part this year, it was fantastic.

“At one point, when I was doing the water stop, there were some children that passed that I didn’t hand a bottle to because I thought they were just playing around.

“But they were actually running the course! I was shocked.

“One woman had a five and six-year-old both doing six miles. It was amazing.”

Fundraisers had the chance to choose between running one, three or six miles around a circular route, around The Green.

And this year saw some fantastic efforts from runners – both young and old.

Ten-year-old Matthew Wilkinson, of Littlehampton, was one of the fastest juniors, completing his three-mile course in an impressive time of 28 minutes.

While experienced senior runner Sam Hubbard – 2012’s victor – ran the full six-mile route in a blistering time of 42 minutes.
