VIDEO: Making the most of your recycling

This video shows how paper, plastics, cans, tinfoil and glass are separated and processed ready to be reconstituted as paper, plastics, cans and glass as life for them starts all over again.

The video, commissioned by the East Sussex Joint Waste Partnership comprising local councils in East Sussex and collection contractor Kier, shows how the recycling facility works. Materials recovered from the separation procedure are used to make a wide range of paper, glass, metal and plastic products ranging from newspapers, fleece clothing and street signs. Many parts of a new car including the body, engine block, plastic fittings and seats now contain a proportion of recycled material.

Councillor Tony Ganly, Chair of the Joint Waste Committee, said: “Recycling is not only great for the environment but saves the taxpayer money. We want to encourage as many people to recycle a much of their household waste as possible and hope that showing residents what happens to their recycling will help. The East Sussex Joint Waste Partnership is determined to boost recycling rates to 50 per cent by 2020.”
