Pupils at Newick Primary School have been digging up the past this week.
The whole school has been involved in an archaeological search organised by parent Simon Stevens, who works for Archaeology South East.
Attention has centred on Stiances Field in the parish, which is owner by a former governor of the school.
The youngsters have been looking for old pottery, clay pipes, nails, flint etc, looking at old maps of the site and completing a map study of the area.
Senior Curriculum Leader Laura Riggs said: “We know from old records and maps that there was once a pond and a house on the site so there is a lot to be found.”
