A spokesman for Horsham Police said: “We have seen an increase in thefts from vehicles in the district and would like to remind vehicle owners please to ‘Take it, Check it, Lock it’

“Take it – Please take all valuable items out of your vehicle when unattended. Items that have been stolen recently include sat navs, mobile phones, laptops/tablets and bags. Please also remove tools from work vans when not in use.

“Check it – Check you have removed items from gloveboxes, centre consoles and the boot. Check that tell-tale sat nav marks have been wiped off the windscreen.

“Lock it – Close your vehicle windows, lock the doors and use a steering lock when possible. Double check that the central locking has worked and that your vehicle is secure.

“It takes just seconds to steal from a vehicle.”
