Lexie White and Hannah Wardrop were chosen to sing the solo alto and solo soprano of Handel’s Messiah at Wantage Choral Society’s 10th anniversary charity concert.

They performed in front of a large audience for the Come and Sing Messiah event last Saturday and were accompanied by a choir and chamber orchestra.

Lexie said: “When I first got the email asking me to sing at the concert I couldn’t believe it.

“To be chosen to sing the solo alto was a huge honour and even though I was nervous, I was also very excited and I really enjoyed every moment of the concert.”

Hannah said the experience of singing professionally for the first time was very special.

“It was a wonderful experience to sing with a choir and a full orchestra and it was hugely beneficial to chat to the other professional singers and see how they prepared for the concert,” she said.

“It was amazing to perform the solo soprano and I really enjoyed the whole day.”

Sara Reynolds, director of performing arts at Seaford College, was delighted and said it was a proud day not only for them but also for Seaford College.

“For both Lexie and Hannah making their professional debuts was a huge moment and I am very proud of them,” she said.

“Both want to be professional singers and they will have gained a huge amount from the experience of performing Handel’s Messiah and they deserved the opportunity.”
