VIDEO: Shock closure of Methven's bookshop in Worthing

STAFF at a popular Worthing bookshop were shocked after being called into a meeting and told the store was closing immediately and they had lost their jobs.

The upset staff at Methven's in South Street were given the devastating news on Monday, March 23 and told they would not be getting paid '“ just four days before pay day.

The shop was closed after its parent company ArgentVive plc went into administration and appointed insolvency specialists.

Shell-shocked

The sudden closure has sent shock-waves through the town with customers calling it a "sad loss" and crime writer Peter James saying it is a "tragedy".

A support group on social networking website Facebook called Save Methven's Worthing has more than 200 members.

The staff, eight full-time and four part-time, are still shell-shocked and described the closure as like "breaking up a family".
