The star of Top Gun, Rain Man, Mission Impossible and numerous other top box-office hits was there to present the prizes after the Magnolia Cup ladies’ charity race – fitting given that one of his films was called Magnolia.

His stroll from hgis hospitality box to the winner’s enclosure and back was a slow one as he was mobbed by race-goers keen to see him and get pictures of him.

He kept smiling and had time for everyone and his presence gave a huge lift to a day further boosted by The Queen’s grand-daughter Zara Tindall and Channel 4 fashion guru Gok Wan.
