A man has been left devastated after heavy storms last night uprooted a tree, crushing a car in his driveway.

Ian Fowler, from Spencers Place, in Horsham, woke up this morning to find a tree had been ripped from the ground and had fallen on his wife’s car crushing the bonnet and windscreen.

He said: “We pulled back the curtains at 7.30am this morning and saw the tree just lying there. I was gutted when I first saw it.

“We have lived here 25, 26 years now the tree has been here ever since we moved in.

“I am very upset that the tree has gone as well as we have done a lot of fighting to keep it here.

“I am just glad no one was injured.”

Heavy storms battered the Horsham district last night with many residents waking up to find trees had been uprooted and their homes and roads had been flooded.
