VIDEO: Worthing rowers begin Atlantic crossing challenge

A TEAM of rowers have begun their gruelling challenge of crossing the Atlantic Ocean after months of tireless preparation.

Worthing-based team Atlantic Splash set-off on the 3,000-mile Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge on Wednesday after poor weather delayed the start of the race by two days.

Neal Marsh, Bastien Leclair, Marc Alderman, Tom Hyland and Terry Munson will battle 40ft waves, huge vessels and exhaustion during the race, which they hope to complete in around 30 days.

Speaking before the race, Mr Marsh said: “We are feeling slightly nervous but very excited about the challenge ahead. We have been on the phone to our families, who have wished us luck. It has been quite emotional, as there is a high risk factor to the challenge.”
