VIEWS SOUGHT ON POLICE BUDGET

SUSSEX Police Authority is inviting public comment ahead of setting its budget for policing the county in 2007-08.

The Authority, which has recently warned of a 'bleak outlook' for police finances over the next few years, is one of the lowest funded shire forces in the country, being granted around 6m less than the average.

This, combined with a warning that 'excessive' hikes in council tax '“ believed to anything more than 5% - will be capped, means that setting a budget to maintain current services and invest in other crucial areas demanded by the Government will be very challenging.

The budget questionnaire can be accessed via the Authority's website '“ www.sussexpoliceauthority.gov.uk '“ or can be obtained by telephoning 01273 481561.

All submissions must be made by January 26.
