VILAGERS TO VOTE ON HALL PLAN

A poll will take place in the Parish of Newick on Thursday, July 20. Electors will be able to vote between 4pm and 9pm at Newick Community Centre, The Green, Newick.

The poll has been organised to establish whether Newick residents support the provision of a new village hall on the site adjacent to the Old Telephone Exchange.

Voters will also be asked whether they would support the Parish Council making a contribution towards the cost, in the form of grant that would go to the Village Hall Management Committee. A contribution of 50,000 borrowed over 25 years would mean a Council Tax increase for Newick residents of 3.13 per household a year on a Band D - this would amount to 31 pence per month.

The poll was originally requested at a Newick Parish Meeting on 15 June 2006.

The counting of ballot papers will take place at the conclusion of the poll at the Newick Community Centre.
