Village brings out the bunting for Duke’s visit

THE QUEEN’S cousin, the Duke of Gloucester, took a trip to Etchingham on Tuesday to see for himself the projects which have been created by the Etchingham Community Interest Company (CIC).

The Duke arrived by train at about 4.30pm and was greeted at the station by Peter Field, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex.

Mr Field introduced the Duke to Colin Phillips, chairman of the CIC and the directors of the CIC.

He was also introduced to various local dignitaries, including the new High Sheriff of East Sussex, Graham Peters DL, Rother District Council chairman Joy Hughes, Rother District Council chief executive Derek Stevens and Chief Fire Officer and CE of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, Des Pritchard OBE.

The Duke visited the Bistro@theStation, the visit continued to the landscaped car park, created from the old coal yard and after an unscheduled stop at the parish church, the visit ended with a tour of the recently opened Etchingham Shop & Deli.
