The evening, on April 30, starts at 5.30pm with the official opening of the new library. Chair of East Sussex County Council, Councillor Colin Belsey, will cut the ribbon before speeches.

The last official fundraising event - an auction of promises and goods - will take place that evening at 7pm. There will be a licenced bar at the event.

A spokesperson for Ringmer Village Hall said: “The building work has been going on for more than six months and the fundraising for more than six years.

“It has been a tremendous community achievement, with lots of people donating and many groups running events. There are too many people involved for us to name individuals but special thanks go to everyone who has helped throughout the process.

“We have a light and bright new library, open for three sessions a week, offering books, DVDs and audio books for all the family, internet access and WiFi, free individual sessions with a computer buddy, and regular story times for young children.

“The internal accessible toilet and baby change area is a vast improvement, and the other toilets are also modernised and bright.

“The St Mary’s Room is now larger; the Symons Hall is lighter and brighter thanks to money from Lewes District Council’s Zero Heroes award.

“The new store room will be very convenient for most of our regular user groups.

“More than 60 groups meet regularly and offer a wide range of activities.

“In short Ringmer Village Hall has always been a good meeting place – now it is a great one. Come and see for yourself on April 30.”
