POLICE this week stepped up patrols in the Ringmer area after a spate of burglaries over 48 hours.

POLICE this week stepped up patrols in the Ringmer area after a spate of burglaries over 48 hours.

Six burglaries were reported between Sunday and Tuesday where thieves forced doors or windows at the back of premises.

In Lewes Road, three neighbouring houses were targeted between midday and 5pm on Monday.

Jewellery and cash were the most common items taken in each incident.

Lewes Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Dave Padwick said: 'The likelihood is that these offences were committed by the same thieves.

'I would urge anyone who saw or heard anything unusual between Sunday and Tuesday to call me on 0845 60 70 999 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.'

Householders are also being urged to consider their household security in the wake of the offences.

In addition, people are asked to be a good neighbour and call the police if they witness anything suspicious in their community.
