Officials say that the move will provide a modern local-style branch with Post Office services provided from an open-plan till at the shop counter and will have extended opening hours.

Services will be provided throughout shop opening hours from Monday – Saturday: 7.30am – 8pm and on Sundays from 8.30am – 6pm. It means the branch will open earlier and close later every day.

The current Ashurst Wood Post Office at The News Store, 19 Hammond Road, Ashurst Wood, East Grinstead, will close with the current Postmaster’s agreement on Wednesday March 2. During the transfer an alternative branch is available at Forest Row Post Office, 1 – 4 Newlands Place, Hatfield Road, Forest Row.

Officials say that the move is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

There will be improved accessibility as the current branch has steps and the new branch will have level access and there is a wide automatic door.

Said a spokesperson: “During consultation we received a number of comments from customers and local representatives very much in support of the change. The new Post Office is in a more central location, and they welcomed the improved access and longer opening hours that the change would provide. Other feedback commented on parking in the surrounding area. We have reviewed parking - there are three parking spaces outside the premises with additional

roadside parking nearby.
