Residents of Rustington should be flushed with pride because they are the beneficiaries of some award-winning toilets.

The four public toilets, all owned or managed by Rustington Parish Council, have been recognised by the Loo of the Year awards.

The public toilet unit at the Woodlands Recreation Ground received a platinum award, and the toilets in the Churchill Car Park, The Street and at the Broadmark Lane mobile unit all got gold.

The entries were in the public toilets (non-attended) category.

They were judged by inspectors for signage and décor, fixtures and fittings, cleanliness and management.

Alison Cooper, chairman of Rustington Parish Council, said she was ‘really proud’ to be able to continue to provide award-winning toilets.

“The fact that we have won awards before and continue to do so for our public toilets when others are closing is very important to us.

“Over the last 20 years, we have invested a lot of money in them.

“We have a thriving shopping centre and you need to provide facilities for people to come.”

Clerk Carole Ward said that last year the parish council spent in excess of £40,000 on maintaining and cleaning the toilets, and this year it has a budget of £44,000.
