CONGRATULATIONS: In spite of a weekend of doubtful weather - would it or wouldn’t it rain - the Alfriston Festival was a long weekend of celebration and fun.
But the Festival is special and brings with it, rain or shine, visitors and villagers out to enjoy themselves and we did. Sylvia Daw and the team did a remarkable job of organising the event overcoming the vagaries of the weather with such a positive, cheerful attitude.
The Revue, It’s a Village Thing, set the bar high for entertainment on Friday night. Synchronised swimming, Small Legs, The Croakers, The Octaves, Tony Mason, The Performing dog, The Annual Village Song, A Duet, A Solo, Children et al performed to laughing, cheering applause.
A really good night. On Sunday evening Rock by the River brought crowds who enjoyed picnic suppers to the music of Mick Gibbs, Mark Hurst, Daniel Merceron and Robin Steadman. I write this column on a Monday and as I write it is raining and the open air day on the Tye is due to begin. Alternative arrangements are in place, hall and church will once again be the centre of activities and I am quite certain the visitors will come and enjoy and Sylvia will continue to be cheerful and resilient.
