STOOLBALL: Our mixed stoolball tournament is being held in the rec on August Bank Holiday Monday (August 31) 12.30pm start. Refreshments, bar, raffle and tombola will be available during the day. Unfortunately we will not be able to use the school playground for parking because of the building works. We will be playing for the Carole Porter Memorial cup. We do need one more team (four ladies and four men), it will be a fun afternoon and I am sure that one of our many village clubs can rustle up a team. Contact Yvonne 01273 400087.

Two of our team, Jen Lay and Angharad Hills, were selected to play for Mid Division in the EXPO competition at Wivelsfield Green on Sunday against six other Divisions. We were runners-up with 10 points to West Division who had 12 points.

PARISH DEVELOPMENT PLAN: Thirty new dwellings for Barcombe, too much or not enough? How far should Barcombe grow? Or should we pull up the drawbridge? Look out for the parish council’s housing survey with the September Barcombe News; or if you prefer clicking to ticking, it will also be on the parish website ( Either way, don’t chuck it in the recycle bin. The idea is to find out what you think about the development, particularly housing development, of the community. Also to decide whether Barcombe needs a formal Neighbourhood Development Plan. Though planning policy is directed from Lewes, Barcombe can have an influence. But only if you care enough to fill in the form.
