FESTIVE EVENING: Thankfully the weather was kind for our Burwash Festive Evening. There was so much to see and buy and there was a terrific crowd of people there to enjoy it all. The restaurant at the Bear was a delight of glittery stalls selling a diverse array of goods, from home made to commercial items. Marco the magician was on hand to entertain the families while the reindeer just lay around in their stall so unconcerned by it all. Santa’s Grotto at Cheritons was a delight as the children visited him and had a go on the tombola. There was a tasty barbecue at the Butchers’ and a hog roast at the Bear. At 6pm local celebrity James Kirtley and Mary Taylor BEM had the pleasure of turning on the lights in the high street and on the Christmas tree. Later we were all entertained by the drummers, wow what an amazing experience if you haven’t heard them before. Thank you to the parish council for financing the event and to Kevin and all those who helped to make it go so well.
CHRISTMAS TREE: Last weekend St Bartholomew’s church hosted another of their fabulous Christmas tree festivals. What a beautiful setting for this magical event. Some 37 trees were decorated by local groups, clubs, societies and families. Some had lights but other didn’t seem to need them. They were so different in their make-up, quilted tiny cushions made by the quilters. The classes from the primary school had a tree each, The British Legion’s was really lovely, I think probably my favourite, but they were all so different and so well done it is hard to say one was better than the others. Congratulations to the church and all involved on such a splendid event.
BINGO: The Christmas charity prize bingo afternoon was just wonderful. So many people attended, it was truly a great family afternoon. The children were so well behaved it was a pleasure to have them there. Thank you so much to everyone who gave some of the amazing prizes, both the bingo tables and the raffle had some fabulous gifts. My grateful thanks to Colin and Davina Swaine, Sam and Keith Morrison-Williams, Rod Clifton, Lorriane Tasker, the three lads from the snooker room and my family for all their help and support. It was one of the best for years. We made £375 after expenses which will go towards the Christmas Day lunch for those on their own and MacMillan Nurses.

BOWLS: Last week, the club entertained a group of the Robertsbridge Scouts, teaching them how to play the game of short mat bowls. They had a fabulous evening and want to come back for more. This is really encouraging as it means that younger players may be out there. They have had two matches, the first was at home to Hailsham Martlets which they won three games to one. The second was away to Hailsham Quintins which they won 4-0. The club have one match left before Christmas a home fixture to Hadlow Down on Thursday. We always welcome new players to join us, we meet on Monday evenings from 6.30pm and enjoy much fun as we try to out bowl each other.
