BOWLS: The Burwash Short Mat Bowls team have come to the end of another enjoyable season in the Wealden League division two. Their last match was away to Ringmer Hares last week where Margaret Waterhouse, Mary Taylor and Alan green struggled to find the line of the mat and lost 5-18. Meanwhile the other triple of Wayne Reed, Angela Marden and Gavin Wood lost by one shot on the final end 9-10. After tea break pairs Keith Marden and Keith Wood won 16-11 and Cherry Taylor and Julie Hawkins won 10-9. Burwash finished top of the second division with 139 points and 801 shot difference with Horam Cannons coming second on 121 points and 315 shot difference. They will be promoted into the first division next season along with Ringmer Tortoises. Division one was won by Crowhurst with 102 points and 328 shot difference with Frant in second place on 102 and 72. Wivelsfield and Laughton will be relegated into division 2.

QUIZ: Tonight, Friday, is quiz night at the Burwash Common pavilion. Teams of six are invited to go along and join in the fun. Entry is £2 and all money is returned as prize money. Sausage supper will be available. For more details please call Karol on 01435 883318.

QUILT SHOW: The Burwash Quilters will be having an exhibition of their work tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday at the Burwash Village Hall from 10am until 4pm. Entrance is £5 and includes refreshments. There will be a quilt raffle in aid of Hospice in the Weald. These talented sewers make some amazing quilts. You will be amazed and the quality of their work.

AFTER 8’S: The ladies of the After Eight Club will meet again on Wednesday evening in Burwash Common Pavilion. Their guest speaker will be women’s rights campaigner Lesley Absela MBE, talking about her life and times from the front lines around the world. From Burwash to Baghdad, Hotel Babylon to the House of Commons, this should surely not be missed. It is guaranteed to be interesting, entertaining and shocking. This is not a political or judgemental statement but one of humanity. The meeting begins at 8pm and guests are welcome to go along.

CRICKET: The Burwash Common cricket team have begun net practice on the field by the Pavilion. They are always happy to hear from new players, tea makers, scorers, supporters and sponsors. The pitch should be in perfect condition for the start of the new season thanks to the super new lawn mower and those who use it to maintain the field. If interested please call 01435 882117.
