DRAGONFLY WALK: This is a chance to join specialist John Luck, at Sheffield Park, for a guided walk tomorrow, Saturday, from 11am to 1pm to spot some of the colourful native dragonflies that thrive in the garden. The cost is £6 per person and normal admission applies.
CRICKET: Tomorrow, Saturday, sees Chailey in a league game at Edenbridge starting at 1.30pm. On Sunday there is a friendly game at the sports ground, just off the A272, against Dormansland which starts at 2pm. Prospective players and supporters are most welcome. SHEFFIELD PARK: Cricket in the Garden, the Armadillos have a game tomorrow, Saturday, starting at 11.30am against Butterflies. This team was founded by Rugbeians who had not won 1st XI colours; the first match was played in 1863 and in 1864 membership was extended to those who had been educated at Charterhouse, Eton, Harrow, Westminster and Winchester. Of interest is that 13 former Butterflies have captained England. All are welcome to watch the games and relax in the magnificent surroundings, with a picnic maybe.
ST PETER’S CHURCH: Services this Sunday are Holy Communion at 8am and Parish Communion at 10am.
FREE CHURCH: South Chailey, has services this Sunday at 10.30am with John Goodway and 6.30pm with Peter Jolly.
JAZZ ON THE GREEN: This is on Sunday in front of St Peter’s Church; the Beer, Bubbly and Pimms tent and ploughman’s lunches will be available from 12.30pm. There will be lots to do and see including plants, pet care, dog walking, bottle, bric-a-brac, book and cake stalls. Also a coconut shy, bell ringing, games, a raffle, children’s tombola and teas. BONFIRE SOCIETY: The society’s AGM is at the Reading Room on Wednesday starting at 8.15pm and its future will be the important topic for discussion. VOLUNTEERING: At the Bluebell Railway whether you have skills or no previous experience and can offer at least a day a month you are invited to find out more about volunteering at the railway. AQUA MOVERS+: This is a fun and dynamic group for parents and their disabled children aged under 5 years old which will be starting at Chailey Heritage Foundation in September. A free taster session in the Foundation’s hydrotherapy pool takes place on Tuesday July 7 from 2pm to 3pm. Aqua Movers+ is a chance to use the pool whilst being supported by a specialist therapist. Also to meet other parents of disabled children, gain practical support from a physiotherapist and speech and language therapist and have great fun with your child. COUNCIL MEETING: The Planning and Environs Committee of the parish council meet at the Reading Room, Chailey Green, on Tuesday July 7 at 7.30pm. Members of the public may attend and will be given an opportunity to make representations if they so wish.

WIN TENNIS HISTORY: Several years ago Andy and Kimberley Murray were handed a very special package; a tube of white tennis balls that had been signed by the late Fred Perry, accompanied by a note from their owner, Gail Sargent. Gail was a lifelong tennis player and had met Fred on his visit to Maresfield Tennis Club in 1994. Over a decade later she watched a young Andy Murray practising and was so impressed with his potential that she decided to gift him with the signed balls for him to do with what he saw fit. Gail was battling ovarian cancer and sadly passed away in 2010. Andy and Kimberley have decided to raffle one of the signed tennis balls in Gail’s memory, with the entire proceeds being donated to St. Peter & St. James Hospice, North Chailey, where Gail was cared for in accordance with the wishes of her husband, Richard. Tickets cost £1 each and can be purchased at http://www.raffleplayer.com/andymurray. The first prize is the AMF Tennis Ball signed by Fred Perry and Andy Murray, the second prize a t-shirt signed by Andy Murray and two tickets to the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum Tour and the third prize a Wimbledon 2015 Championships towel and two tickets to the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum Tour. The draw will take place on Sunday July 12.
