PRESERVATION SOCIETY: For the next event, the East Hoathly and District Preservation Society present, Behind the Scenes at the National Gallery by Sarah Berry. Sarah has worked at the National Gallery, in Trafalgar Square, for a number of years and was head of the photographic department. The talk covers the history of the gallery, including WWII and also the departments vital to its running and the care of the paintings. In particular, she talks about the photography done prior to and during the conservation of paintings e.g. the use of X-ray analysis. The talk concludes with the gallery today; the current and forthcoming exhibitions, how people can access the gallery through the internet or maybe organise a group visit. This event will take place at the East Hoathly Village Hall today, Friday, at 7.30pm. Admission is free to members and guests are welcome at £3 per person.
