East Hoathly

PRESERVATION SOCIETY: This SUNDAY 20th September, the Preservation Society will be leading their monthly walk, starting from The Roebuck at Laughton at 2.00pm. Everyone is very welcome, whether members or not. Dogs on leads please in case of livestock.

For further details, call Jenny or Chris on 872830.

New bus service: East Hoathly and Halland Bus Services update. Halland now has a daily bus service to Gatwick Airport! Please don’t get too excited, as although the service is most welcome it is somewhat limited.
The Metrobus service 380 runs from Hastings to Gatwick airport, locally the times are: Halland Black Lion: 02.45 arrives Gatwick 04.45 and from the Halland Black Lion: 03.38 arrives Gatwick 05.38 The one way fare is £7.00 Unfortunately there are no return journeys (not so good then!). However, Metrobus do offer a daily return ticket by train, but that is not always convenient to get back to Halland. However if you have a morning flight from Gatwick this service could possibly be useful.

More bus news: East Hoathly is one of the few villages in this part of the county that has a direct week-end service to Brighton. It is therefore with regret that at the moment this service is not being used enough to be viable in the future. Currently on most journeys, there is no-one to pick up from East Hoathly. Despite this, Brighton and Hove Buses has agreed to continue run the service for winter timetable, and the bus company has produced some leaflets advertising the service to encourage more usage. However, unless the service receives more use it will discontinue next spring.

Please bear in mind that this service will be beneficial to those members of our community that can not drive, and please consider using this facility as an alternative to driving between the locations provided by the service. As a reminder a summary of the timetable is as follows:

Times from East Hoathly to Lewes and Brighton are: 9.19am and 12.17pm

Return Times are: Brighton Churchill Square: 2.35pm and 4.35pm and Lewes Waitrose: 3.11pm and 5.11pm

These times give good opportunities for visits to Lewes and Brighton including perhaps going to see the Veteran Car Run arrivals on Brighton seafront on Sunday November 1st.

Additionally, Halland continues to have its hourly service: To Brighton and Lewes from 9.24am until 7.55pm, To Halland from Brighton Churchill Square from 9.35am until 4.35pm, To Halland from Lewes Waitrose from 10.11am until 5.11pm

SANCTUARY: Could East Hoathly offer a home for one or more of the unfortunate people who have risked everything to escape war or persecution?

Would villagers like ways to contribute towards alleviating the plight of these fellow human beings? An open meeting will be held in the church to discuss such ideas. If you are interested in the refugee problem; think UK should be doing more to help people in trouble; or would like to know more about what the idea of sanctuary could mean, do come. No cost; no commitment; no affiliation – just a conversation, perhaps leading to an action plan.

Please come along to discuss this issue that can not be ignored. The meeting will take place in the village church at 19:30 on Wednesday30th September
