HARVEST FESTIVAL: This year’s celebration will take place on Sunday in the Parish Church. The service is open to anyone who would like to attend and is designed with a wide age range in mind. Food collected at the service will be used to benefit our local food bank in Uckfield. There are many reasons why someone may need to turn to a foodbank, from redundancy, sickness and delayed wages to family breakdown and problems with benefits and low pay. The foodbank gives emergency aid to those who encounter such predicaments so that they and their families do not go hungry. If you would like to help the following items would be most gratefully received: Milk (UHT or powdered), sugar, fruit juice, soup, pasta sauces, sponge pudding (tinned), tomatoes (tinned), cereals, rice pudding (tinned), tea bags, instant coffee, instant mash, rice/pasta, tinned meat/fish, tinned fruit, jam, biscuits or snack bars.
PRESERVATION SOCIETY: Tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm a talk will be given by Trevor Weekes MBE from The Sussex Wildlife and Ambulance Service (WRAS) which is currently celebrating its 20th year. He recently launched a book called The Fields Were My Theatre to mark the charity’s work in helping wildlife in need. WRAS is a community charity, run primarily by volunteers. Admission is free to members, guests welcome for a £3 admission charge. For more information please call Toni Whewell on 01825 872460.
The next walk will take place on Sunday October 18 at 2pm at Arlington Reservoir. Meet in the car park. It is hoped that there will be a chance to spot avocets and black tiled godwits. For more information, please call Jenny or Chris on 01825 872830.
DOG CONTROL: It is with frustration and regret that I have to report that once again out of control dogs have been observed on the allotments. The allotment holders put an awful lot of work into maintaining their plots and it is incredibly disheartening to discover that your plot has been disturbed by digging up, or even worse. Please, dog walkers keep your animals on a lead whilst crossing the plots and ensure that no anti-social behaviour takes place.
FUND RAISING EVENING: There will be an evening of music and dance on Saturday November 14 in the village hall at 8pm (to 11pm). Funds raised will aid the church and sports pavilion. There will be live music and licensed bar, plus nibbles and a raffle. Tickets are £10 and available from the Village Stores. For more information please call J Newman on 07814 968682.
