NEW YEAR MESSAGE: Happy New Year to our Sussex Express readers.
2015: We enjoyed telling you of our events and news here in Falmer last year. 2015 saw us having yet another wonderful series of concerts, highlights included the concert given as a fundraiser to aid bringing young musicians from Palestine to perform at the Brighton Festival and our most recent concert Shepherds Arise featuring old music from Sussex church manuscripts including the Falmer Carol. There was standing room only at both of these events. All the concerts throughout the year have been wonderful and huge thanks should go to Sue Mileham for organising this exciting music.
Our artistic ventures were also much enjoyed. The Easter Exhibition in St Laurence Church was well attended and the show looked excellent. This was followed later in the year by our Artwave show Art and Soul at Falmer taking place in the village hall and the church and featuring around 17 professional artists. Finally the Christmas Fair was a huge success with stallholders delighted at the number of people attending.
The highlight of the Falmer calendar is always the Flower Festival when, not only is the church decked out with flowers from head to toe, but we also have a traditional Village Fair running alongside. The whole event is skilfully masterminded by Jill Burt who coordinates all the various activities. Last year the weather was (fairly) kind to us and we hope for more of the same this year.
On Christmas Eve we had the now traditional Christingle service, attended by a large number of parents and children. Everyone enjoyed hearing the Christmas story and singing the familiar carols and all the children were delighted with their Christingles.
THIS YEAR: There will be more Music, Art and general fun taking place in Falmer in this coming year. There are already concerts lined up for January and February, there will be an Easter exhibition entitled Easter Fires and we will be having all our usual events, I hope some of you will be able to come and join us. Watch this space for details.
